My Athletic Career
My name is Dory Aoun and I am a former collegiate basketball and football player turned professional Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. I grew up in Garden Grove, California playing traditional team sports like soccer, baseball, basketball, and football. After my last football season at Santa Ana College I was transferring to California State University Fullerton where I thought my athletic career was over. My buddy Tony was doing Jiu-Jitsu and convinced me to come try it out. I walked into Hustle Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Santa Ana not having any idea what Jiu Jitsu was. I saw a small 130lb guy in a karate outfit with a black belt on. As a 240 lb football player I was thinking in my head that this guy can't do anything to me. After the first round and 20 taps later my professor from day 1 Russel Cantorna welcomed me and created an environment that hooked me from the start. What I loved about Jiu-Jitsu was the challenge as well as the individuality of it. I did not have to depend on teammates, if I won it was because of me and if I lost it was because of me. Since that day January 29th, 2018 I have been training and competing as much as possible representing Hustle Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under professor Russel Cantorna and Checkmat La Habra under professor Lucas Leite. Now 6 years later I am a 4x No-Gi World Champion, Double Gold No-Gi World Champion, 3x Worlds Runner Up, 4x Pan American Champion, 10x American National Champion, and countless other championships. Jiu-Jitsu has been my life and has kept me on the right track and took me to many places I never thought I would go without. Such as Dubai, Italy, Costa Rica, Philippines, and all over the United States. My goals in Jiu Jitsu are to acquire as much knowledge and competition experience as possible so I can later pass this on to my students and be credible. I aspire to be a Black Belt Gi and No-Gi World Champion and bring many championship medals home while representing the Checkmat Flag.
